Tegan meeting the 3rd doctor whether before or after the Black Guardian messed with the brigadier and Turlough. Two companions meeting each other worked out extremely well at Lounge Talk. I have a couple of versions of the 5th doctor meeting Jamie somewhere. But not only do I have no freaking clue which version worked, it's been years since I've even read that story. I'd sooner rewrite the story than try to breath life into either version. If I ever do find the first version, the one without Turlough, I can rewrite them both. Like Superman Defeated there was one phrase that inspired both versions: The Cricket champion meeting his Scottish friend. There was another I should definitely get back to, one that I called Mortal Combat was simply a bunch of people talking over drinks and snacks realizing how different they were from each-other. The first such group was Captain Archer, Captain Jack Harkness and General Hammond. The next group would be the Tenth Doctor, Data from around the time he met Doctor Bashir, Spencer Reid and Jonas Quinn.
One thing I will remember about Merlin for a long time to come is that all he felt for Morganna was 'sad'. Which means that even with Amnesia he wouldn't badger her or anything. Not that I have him doing so, I just don't think his attitude toward her in that story would change just because of the abduction. That being said, I would love to go back and read through the entire thing again. It is one of my original Merlin Stories and has been very much neglected. I'm serious. I'm more serious now than I was when I originally wrote this. Knight of Night, Swords and Sorcerers, even Times Journey were focused on or at least given attention to probably for years but I didn't change or edit a thing on Merlin's Amnesia. Merlin's Amnesia wasn't so much Kicked to the wayside as Left back on the dirt road. Which is why it fits so beautifully that Merlin's Amnesia is the Merlin story I started first. And the one, emphasis on ONE I am working on now.
So counting through all the times The tenth Doctor and his companions, especially Jack Harkness have met up with other people. Turlough met with Hotch and Spencer. The Doctor met both of them back when he was the cricket champion. The tenth Doctor met back up with Spencer after he and Colonel Jack O'Neill traded comments. But I have literally no idea where that exchange is or even if I have a copy of it anymore. As I originally wrote it this was the first mention Spencer or Hotchner had of Captain Jack. Apparently I called that scene Fast Paths. I don't understand why I was so concerned when Fast Paths occurs compared to The Doctor and Jack landing in the SGC. What matters is whether or not they have met Samuel Francis Taylor yet. And I can work that out when I'm actually typing the thing up.
The first thing I need to do is find Sherlock's Gambit and my Hotch and Foster story. I will print those out before doing anything else, polish them up if I can. And then I will place them within the greater web of a timeline. “Helpful stranger has the plot and subplot down but not the actual unfolding of events.” Shows how long ago I actually wrote this entry!
After being gone so long and out of touch for even longer, I want to start getting opinions and ideas about possible stories from more of my friends. I might just type a few random conversations that have no context, as possible story prompts. that's my idea for now and here is the first in that vein.
(A blind girl has talked with a 'strong young voice' for an hour then asks his name. 'Henry')
"I knew a Henry once; I doubt you are he."
"Why are you so sure?”
“Two reasons. He would be an old man by now, if alive at all..”
“..Good reason.” Henry says absentmindedly.
“And he would be speaking French. Being raised around here he understood the king's English well enough, but could never speak it as a native.”
Actual bits of dialogue I have jotted down but until and up to now have absolutely NO context for. Hoping some feedback or thought-provoking stuff can come from posting them. So any ideas of possible context or exposition on these is awesome and well appreciated. I didn't know any other way of contacting so many of my friends, but only the interested ones at once.
Let me be crystal clear about something. I KNOW you are an alien, biologically and natively. That just doesn't stop me from sharing, and here is why. I believe people are better than generally thought or described. Whether we like people or not, we can trust a lot of them, at least with basic stuff. almost like 'I know you enough to trust you, even if not enough to share'. For me personally, there's a very short list of people I truly trust with the deep stuff, because of exactly how 'deep' and far reaching this stuff is. And I trust you with it. To me knowing you're from another planet doesn't change that."
"Morganna may have your blood but she is not your heir as I reckon it. Maybe Arthur will never come to the throne but I would rather die fighting for him than waste away living under her rule...even if I end up only fighting for Arthur's memory."
"I never told you why we can resist without fighting?! It basically comes down to the simple truth that for my people, pacifism does not mean inaction. It means finding ways to join the fight without picking up a sword. We will ne-ver create violence. But we would rather die than live under anyone else's banner.”
(An alien friend of Superman's says goodbye to Clark...At his high school graduation)
“I don't know if the hero you become will line up with the man I knew or not. But you will be your own kind of hero and one of the finest men I've ever known. Nothing can change that... now.”
(A woman known to have magic had lost her memory and spent the day serving the king)
Nikita: I woke up knowing I belonged at your side. But if that was my station...if being your attendant was my life, it would have felt normal for me...familiar at least. I don't doubt for a SECOND that for today I was right where I was supposed to be...But I think it was an entirely new thing for me."
